The State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has commenced a series of tree-planting initiatives across the islands where they operate, aligning with a broader national effort to boost environmental sustainability.

STELCO Managing Director Hussain Fahmy stated that the campaign supports President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge to plant five million trees across the Maldives, a programme which began in June last year. Fahmy confirmed that STELCO has committed to planting 500,000 saplings as part of this national goal.

“We are striving to accomplish the commitment of planting 500,000 trees, as promised by STELCO to meet the pledge made by Mohamed Muizzu,” Fahmy said, highlighting that the company’s efforts are being carried out on weekends in the islands supported by the civic body.

To date, 565,890 saplings have been planted across the country by various organisations and companies participating in the initiative, according to official figures.
