STELCO Takes Over Utility Services Across Meemu Atoll

FENAKA Corporation has officially transferred utility services in all inhabited islands of Meemu Atoll to the State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) as part of the government’s utility sector restructuring efforts.
The transfer was formalised on Sunday, with STELCO taking over utility operations in Dhiggaru, Kolhufushi, Maduvvari, Muli, Naalaafushi, Raiymandhoo and Veyvah.

The agreement was signed by STELCO Managing Director Dr Ali Azwar and FENAKA Managing Director Mohamed Afeef Hussain on behalf of their respective companies.
According to STELCO, the transition is part of a broader government initiative aimed at improving the delivery and management of public utility services across the islands.
The move follows similar transfers carried out under the restructuring programme. The Ministry of Finance has already shifted utility services in Baa and Lhaviyani atolls from FENAKA to STELCO.
With the addition of Meemu Atoll, STELCO continues to expand its operational footprint beyond the Greater Malé Region. The company currently provides utility services in the capital region as well as several islands in Kaafu, Alif Alif, Alif Dhaalu and Vaavu atolls.
The latest transfer represents another step in the government’s ongoing efforts to reorganise the utility sector and enhance service provision in communities across the Maldives.
