Male’ City Council has recently announced its decision to temporarily close certain public areas in response to requests made by residents ahead of the upcoming Eid-al-Adha holidays.

The council aims to cater to various activities and address the challenges previously faced by the public due to restricted vehicle movement during such occasions. Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu emphasized that the closure of these areas will provide residents with the opportunity to freely walk and enjoy quality time with their families, without any disruptions to traffic flow.

In the past, the city council implemented restrictions on vehicle movement during specific times to ensure that families could traverse the city unencumbered by the significant traffic congestion often experienced in Male’. This measure has been well-received by the community and has allowed residents to fully participate in the festivities surrounding Eid-al-Adha.

This year, Eid-al-Adha is set to be celebrated on June 28. By closing selected public areas, Male’ City Council aims to create a more pedestrian-friendly environment, enabling families to engage in leisurely walks and enjoy the festivities without the concerns associated with heavy traffic.
