Hassan Latheef, the founder of The Democrats, a newly established political party, has appealed to the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) to refrain from engaging in political activities targeted at any particular country.
Discussions are underway between the opposition parties, including the PPM, the People’s National Congress (PNC), and The Democrats, regarding potential collaboration.
During a press conference held to provide media updates on the formation of The Democrats, Hassan Latheef emphasized that his party does not intend to undertake political activities against any country. However, he expressed concerns that the PPM has been involved in such activities and announced his intention to request the party to cease such actions.
Latheef stressed that The Democrats would not endorse any movement that might disrupt the relations between nations. He expressed his willingness to collaborate with all political parties, except those engaging in such activities.
These remarks from Hassan Latheef come at a time when the opposition PPM, which is engaged in talks for a political alliance with The Democrats, is conducting a campaign called “India Out” against India.
In response, the government has urged the public to abstain from actions that may damage relations with the Maldives and other countries, emphasizing the importance of responsible political conduct.
