Three remand centres dedicated to drug treatment were officially opened on Saturday in Addu, Fuvahmulah, and GDh. Thinadhoo, with expanded services now available to patients.
The National Drug Agency (NDA) stated that while detoxification and community-based treatment were previously the primary focus, the newly established facilities will now offer remand services in addition to these existing options.
The new facilities include a drug detoxification and community rehabilitation centre in GDh. Thinadhoo, a similar centre in Fuvahmulah, and the Vilunu Centre in S. Hithadhoo, Addu.

The NDA offers both residential and non-residential treatment options. Among its residential services are a therapeutic community rehabilitation centre based in K. Himmafushi, a residential detox programme, a semi-residential facility, and the remand centres.
According to the agency, the total number of beds currently available across all drug treatment facilities nationwide stands at 350.
