Regarding the murder case of Naeema Moosa in Noonu Atoll Manadhoo on April 7, the Prosecutor General (PG), Hussain Shameem, has officially charged three individuals in connection with the crime.
The accused individuals have been identified as Ahzam AbduShukoor, 23, Abdul Wahid Rifaas, 20, and Hassan Favaz, 21.
During a press conference held today, PG Shameem detailed the charges brought against the trio, which include the alleged commission of murder with a sharp object, obstruction of justice, and abuse of a dead body.
Regarding the obstruction of justice charges, PG Shameem explained, “These charges apply for their act to burn the weapon and other objects used in the murder of Naeema, for destroying evidence.”
He further clarified that the abuse of a dead body stems from the accused locking the front door of the house after committing the murder, leading to the family’s discovery of the crime only 40 hours later.
Shameem revealed that Ahzam AbduShukoor and Abdul Wahid Rifaas are considered active participants in the murder of Naeema. He expressed confidence in the State’s case, citing scientific evidence, including DNA evidence, obtained in relation to the investigation.
The Prosecutor General concluded the conference by stating that the State is well-prepared to convict all three individuals based on the substantial evidence gathered.
It is noteworthy that the police had previously disclosed the discovery of the weapons used in the attack, as well as the clothing worn by the perpetrators, buried on the beach in Manadhoo.
