Tiny Hearts of Maldives has launched its Heart Health Champions Programme in Lh. Hinnavaru, a 12-month initiative aimed at strengthening the prevention and early detection of cardiovascular disease across Lhaviyani Atoll.

According to the NGO, the programme, launched on Thursday in partnership with Atmosphere Foundation, will be implemented across all inhabited islands in the atoll. It focuses on training community members to lead regular physical activity and heart health initiatives, while bringing island stakeholders together to develop practical Island Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) Action Plans.

The initiative will also conduct community screenings to identify cardiovascular risk factors early and encourage timely intervention. Tiny Hearts of Maldives said the programme will establish both CVD and coronary heart disease (CHD) registries on the islands.

The organisation said the programme aims to develop locally led approaches to heart health by building community capacity, strengthening prevention efforts and improving early detection over the long term.
