TM Invites to Register as Observers for the Upcoming Presidential Elections 2023

Transparency Maldives (TM) is currently seeking Short-Term Observers to participate in the upcoming Presidential Election 2023 observation efforts. In an effort to ensure a transparent and fair electoral process, TM will cover the training costs for the selected observers and provide them with a stipend on the day of observation.

To be eligible for the position, applicants must be 18 years of age or older and should not be affiliated with any political party or actively engaged in political party activities, including campaign activities.
The role of observers primarily involves observing the designated ballot boxes on the day of voting and promptly reporting their findings to Transparency Maldives. Additional details regarding the specific tasks will be provided to the registered applicants.
By engaging in these observation efforts, observers are not only expected to gain experience in the electoral process but also have an opportunity to actively participate in civic duties.
TM also noted that observers may need to utilize their personal phones for the purpose of observation and may also incur certain expenses. In order to address these expenses, Transparency Maldives will provide observers with a per diem allowance of approximately MVR 1000 on the day of their assigned observation.
All observers will not be assigned to observe on the election day itself, as Transparency Maldives will randomly select the ballot boxes to be observed. Consequently, observers will not receive compensation if they are not assigned to observe a particular ballot box.
However, all observers will be actively involved in an election simulation prior to the actual election, for which they will receive a stipend of MVR 400.
The first round of voting for the Presidential Election is scheduled to take place on September 9, 2023. If there is a second round, it’s scheduled to take place on September 30, 2023.
