Tuvalu and Palau Leaders Meet President Muizzu at SIDS Forum

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu held separate courtesy meetings with representatives from Tuvalu and Palau on the sidelines of the SIDS Global Business Network Forum 2026 and Island Investment Forum in the Maldives.

Panapasi Nelesone, Tuvalu’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Economic Development, met President Muizzu yesterday.

The meeting focused on the economic and environmental vulnerabilities facing Small Island Developing States (SIDS), including climate finance, sustainable investment and the need for international financing mechanisms that better reflect the circumstances of island nations.

President Muizzu welcomed closer engagement between the Maldives and Tuvalu and emphasised the importance of solidarity among SIDS in addressing shared challenges.

Meanwhile, Ngiraibelas Tmetuchl, Palau’s Minister of Human Resources, Culture, Tourism and Development, also paid a courtesy call on President Muizzu.

Their discussions focused on shared challenges and opportunities facing SIDS, including climate change, sustainable tourism and the importance of strengthening cooperation and promoting investment opportunities.

President Muizzu reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to working closely with Palau to advance SIDS priorities and strengthen their collective voice internationally.

The SIDS Global Business Network Forum 2026 and the Island Investment Forum are being held in the Maldives from 23 to 25 August, bringing together representatives from the public, private and development sectors to explore partnerships and investment opportunities supporting sustainable and resilient development across SIDS.
