The suspects were identified as 29-year-old Bangladeshi national Zakir Hossain and 35-year-old Mohamed Fauzan of Edhuruge, Vilingili.

Police suspect the two men of involvement in the use, possession and sale of narcotics.

According to remand documents presented at the Criminal Court, officers discovered 1.028 kilograms of drugs during a raid conducted at the ground floor of a house in Henveiru where Zakir was residing.

Police also seized drug-related paraphernalia from the location, including weighing scales and packing equipment.

Investigators believe Fauzan was linked to the premises where the drugs were discovered. Court documents stated that officers opened a bag inside the room using keys that were in Fauzan’s possession.

The Criminal Court determined that the evidence presented by police was sufficient to support the allegations against both suspects.

Zakir was remanded in police custody for 15 days, while Fauzan was remanded for 10 days.

The court also instructed police to verify Zakir’s immigration status before the next hearing.
