Two Bangladeshi Nationals Arrested Over Suspected Illegal Liquor Possession

Two Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested in Malé City on suspicion of illegally possessing, using and distributing liquor, according to the Maldives Police Service.
Police identified the suspects as 21-year-old MD Siam Ahmed and 35-year-old Robel Miah. They were arrested following information received by police alleging that the pair were involved in distributing liquor in the capital.
Officers from the Counter Narcotics Intelligence and Drug Enforcement Department searched the apartment where the suspects were staying during an operation on Saturday. Police said 12 bottles of liquor were recovered during the search.
The two suspects have been handed over to Maldives Immigration for action under the Immigration Act.
Police said the case remains under investigation.
Authorities have made a number of arrests linked to suspected liquor trafficking in recent months, with several cases involving Bangladeshi nationals.
