Two crew members on board the cargo vessel Balma 6 have gone missing after the boat capsized while travelling to Dhonmaagaa in Kaafu Atoll today.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) said the missing individuals include one Maldivian national and one foreign crew member. Two other crew members were rescued by a nearby vessel.
MNDF confirmed that search and rescue operations are underway, with police and MNDF personnel actively searching the area for the missing crew.
In a separate advisory, authorities urged travellers in the Vaadhoo Sea area near Taj Exotica Resort to exercise caution, as this is where Balma-6 capsized. The MNDF Coast Guard said debris from the vessel is expected to drift westward, posing risks to marine traffic.
Authorities have advised all travellers and seafarers in the area to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
