Two Expatriate Teachers Remanded Over Sexual Abuse of Three Children on Same Island
Police probe the alleged sexual assault of a 22-year-old woman in the Upper South.
Two expatriate teachers have been remanded in custody following allegations of sexually abusing three female students in two separate cases reported from the same island within the South Central Police Division.
Authorities confirmed that the allegations involve two distinct suspects and separate incidents occurring days apart.
In the most recent case, a 52-year-old male teacher was remanded in custody for 30 days after being arrested under a court warrant two days ago.
The Maldives Police Service stated that the complaint was formally lodged on 17 October, concerning the alleged sexual abuse of two girls, aged 12 and 13.
The arrest follows an earlier incident on the same island reported on 11 October, in which another 52-year-old expatriate male teacher was accused of sexually abusing a 16-year-old female student.
That suspect was arrested under a court order on 14 October and subsequently remanded in custody for 15 days.
Police clarified that while both suspects share the same age and profession, and the alleged offences took place on the same island, they are two separate individuals subject to distinct investigations.
In accordance with statutory child protection protocols, authorities have withheld the identities of the suspects, the school, and the name of the island to protect the privacy of the underage victims.
Active investigations into both matters remain ongoing.
