The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has announced that the Ungoofaaru Islamic Centre, situated in Raa Atoll, has received authorisation to administer the Islamic University Maldives (IUM) campus in the northernmost region of the country.
The formal agreement was recently endorsed in a ceremony where Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, and Vice Chancellor of IUM, Dr. Ali Zahir bin Saeed Qasim, signed the relevant documents.
Minister Shaheem expressed the significance of initiating IUM courses at the Ungoofaaru Islamic Centre, dedicated to the memory of Dr. Afrasheem Ali, considering it a commendable service in his honor.
Vice Chancellor Zahir underscored the importance of expanding educational opportunities across the nation. He emphasised that establishing the campus in Ungoofaaru would enable a considerable number of students in Raa Atoll to pursue higher education.
Furthermore, he stressed the collaborative aspect of the initiative, stating that it offers a valuable chance for students from other islands in Raa Atoll to participate in IUM courses.
The move is seen as a positive step towards decentralizing educational access and fostering inclusivity in the region.
