Universal Foundation, Red Crescent Renew Partnership to Continue Humanitarian Work

Universal Foundation and the Maldivian Red Crescent have renewed their partnership through a newly signed agreement aimed at continuing humanitarian programmes across the Maldives, including healthcare access and community support services.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed on 26 April 2026, extending a long-standing collaboration under which Universal Foundation will remain a Gold Tier sponsor under the Red Crescent’s Partners for Humanity initiative. The arrangement supports the continuation and expansion of key humanitarian activities nationwide.

The partnership has previously contributed to several initiatives focused on improving access to essential services in underserved communities. Among these was a health camp conducted in 2016, which provided specialised consultations in cardiology, paediatrics, mental health and other areas. Held in Fuvahmulah and Kolhufushi, the programme served hundreds of patients while also supporting awareness and outreach efforts.

Support has also been directed towards the Maldivian Red Crescent’s Patient Transport Service, which has since developed into an ongoing operation. Initially launched with assistance from the Singapore Red Cross, the service has continued with backing from partners, including Universal Foundation.

The Maldivian Red Crescent, a member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, has operated in the Maldives for over 17 years, delivering humanitarian assistance through training programmes, aid campaigns and public awareness initiatives targeting vulnerable communities.

Universal Foundation’s continued involvement reflects its approach of working through partnerships to deliver community-focused interventions, including disaster response efforts. The renewed agreement maintains this collaboration, with both organisations continuing to focus on humanitarian service delivery.
