Veteran Public Servant Dr Mohamed Ali Passes Away

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has expressed his condolences following the death of veteran public servant Dr Mohamed Ali, who passed away yesterday.

In a tribute posted on X, he reflected on Dr Mohamed Ali’s distinguished career spanning more than a quarter-century. Over his decades of public service, he held key government appointments, including Chief of Staff at the President’s Office, Controller of Immigration, and State Minister across several portfolios, most recently at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.

Holding a PhD in environmental science, Dr Mohamed Ali also spent many years serving within the Home Ministry and the former Planning Ministry during periods when the national environmental mandate fell under their jurisdiction.

President Muizzu praised him as a devout, principled, and widely respected figure who earned public affection throughout his life. The President highlighted his significant scholarly contributions and community outreach, particularly in environmental protection and Islamic civic education, before offering his sincere condolences to the family and former colleagues.

Beyond his official roles, Dr Mohamed Ali was a committed advocate for environmental sustainability, notably championing eco-friendly living by regularly cycling rather than using motorised transport.

Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom also expressed condolences over the death of Dr Mohamed Ali, extending his sympathies to the late doctor’s family and friends and acknowledging his long service to the nation.
