Villa College Launches Three New Dual-Specialisation Teaching Degrees for September Intake

Villa College has introduced three new Bachelor of Teaching programmes combining Mathematics with Accounting, Physics or Computer Science, as the institution seeks to address the growing demand for subject-specialised teachers in Maldivian schools.

The programmes, introduced by the college’s Faculty of Educational Studies, are designed to train teachers in two subjects for secondary and higher secondary education and are classified as Level 7 qualifications under the Maldives National Qualifications Framework (MNQF).

The three programmes are:

• Bachelor of Teaching in Mathematics and Accounting
• Bachelor of Teaching in Mathematics and Physics
• Bachelor of Teaching in Mathematics and Computer Science

The three-year, six-semester full-time programmes will be delivered face-to-face on campus. Students will be eligible to receive an Advanced Diploma of Teaching after completing the first two years, or four semesters.

The entry requirements include passes in two GCE A-Level subjects, with a grade of E or above, or two HSC subjects with a grade of C or above. Applicants may also qualify through a relevant Level 4 qualification or an approved Level 4 foundation study programme required for the diploma programme.

Each programme includes a teaching practicum, allowing students to gain practical experience in schools on two separate occasions.

The Mathematics and Accounting programme covers subjects including calculus, algebra, statistics and mechanics, alongside accounting modules such as financial accounting, financial reporting and management accounting.

The Mathematics and Physics programme includes subjects such as dynamics and Newtonian laws, planetary motion, optics and sound, electricity and magnetism, particle physics and relativity, thermodynamics, matter and astrophysics.

The Mathematics and Computer Science programme covers areas including database management systems, computer networks, artificial intelligence for cybersecurity, human-computer interaction, software engineering and secure software development.

Applications are now open for the September 2026 intake.

Dean of the Faculty of Educational Studies Abdulla Sattar Qasim said the programmes would support efforts to prepare subject-specialised teachers needed in Maldivian schools.

Villa College Vice-Rector Dr Ali Najeeb said producing teachers specialised in multiple subjects was of national importance and that the programmes would expand teacher training opportunities for Maldivian students.
