Visit Maldives Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree has stepped down from his position, bringing another leadership change to the state-owned company responsible for promoting the Maldives as a tourism destination.
Shiuree resigned on Monday after meeting with employees earlier in the day. The reason for his resignation remains unclear.
He was appointed Managing Director on 13 June 2024, when the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation, formerly known as MMPRC, was renamed Visit Maldives.
During his time in the role, Shiuree contributed to efforts to promote and further develop the Maldives’ tourism industry. The tourism pursued targeted digital campaigns, expanded partnerships with international travel operators and promoted efforts to diversify the Maldives’ tourism offerings.
Shiuree was the second person appointed to lead the corporation under the current administration. Fatimath Thaufeeg, commonly known as Kudee, was the government’s first appointee to the position.
Before joining Visit Maldives, Shiuree served on the boards of the Maldives Hajj Corporation and the Maldives Association of Construction Industry (MACI).
Visit Maldives has yet to announce who will take over the managing director’s position following Shiuree’s departure.
