Voting Begins in Additional Rounds of Council and WDC Elections

Voting has begun in the additional rounds of the local council election and the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections.

The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) said polls are open from 8:00am to 4:00pm today across five constituencies. These include the election of a member for the seat reserved for women in the Baa Atoll Donfanu Council and a councillor for the Fuvahmulah City Dadimagu constituency, which is also reserved for women.

Additional WDC rounds are being held to elect the president of the Haa Alifu Atoll, Kelaa, committee, as well as members for the Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Neykurendhoo, and Laamu Atoll, Maavah, committees.

A total of 14 ballot boxes have been placed for the additional rounds, located within the participating constituencies and in Malé. Two boxes each have been allocated to Kelaa, Maavah and the Dadimagu ward of Fuvahmulah, while one box each has been placed in Neykurendhoo and Donfanu.

According to the Elections Commission, 6,093 voters are registered for these ballot boxes. Of these, 1,729 are eligible to vote in Kelaa, 1,056 in Neykurendhoo, 441 in Donfanu, 1,556 in Maavah, and 1,311 in the Fuvahmulah Dadimagu ward.

As of 9:00am, 658 voters had cast their ballots, including 230 women and 428 men, leaving 5,435 yet to vote.

Six ballot boxes have also been placed in Malé. Boxes designated for voters from Kelaa and Donfanu are located at Thaajuddeen School, while those for Neykurendhoo and Maavah are at Hiriyaa School. The ballot box for the Fuvahmulah Dadimagu ward has been placed at Dharumavantha School.
