White Alert Extended Amid Heavy Rain and Strong Winds

The Maldives Meteorological Service has extended a White Alert from Shaviyani Atoll to Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, warning of heavy rain and strong winds until 4:00 pm today.

The alert, which began at 10:00 am, covers Shaviyani, Noonu, Raa, Baa, Lhaviyani, Kaafu, Alif Alif, Alif Dhaalu, Vaavu, Meemu, Faafu, Dhaalu, Thaa, Laamu, Gaafu Alif and Gaafu Dhaalu atolls.

The weather service forecast heavy rain and thunderstorms across the affected areas, with wind gusts of up to 40mph expected during squalls.

Rain and thunderstorms are also expected in various parts of the country, with some islands likely to experience heavy downpours. Seas are expected to become moderately rough during squalls.

Authorities have advised the public and seafarers to exercise caution as adverse weather and strong squally winds are expected.
