The announcement was made by former minister Mohamed Maleeh Jamal, who is acting on behalf of Yameen.
In addition to disclosing the party’s name, Maleeh also revealed the official ‘X’ account associated with the People’s National Front. This announcement comes in the wake of Yameen’s departure from the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) on Thursday evening.
Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, a senior lawyer representing Yameen, stated that the former president chose to part ways with PPM due to disagreements with the party’s leadership. According to Jameel, the top echelons of the party were resistant to conducting its activities and were no longer receptive to Yameen’s counsel and advice.
Jameel further announced that Yameen, in response to this development, made the decision to establish a new political entity on the same night as his departure from PPM. Mohamed Maleeh Jamal confirmed that Yameen intends to submit an application seeking permission to formally establish the People’s National Front today.
