Zakat al-Mal Collections Double in June 2026, Zakat House Says

Maldives Zakat House (MZH) collected MVR 21.30 million in Zakat al-Mal during June 2026, nearly twice the amount collected in the same month last year.

According to statistics released by MZH, collections reached MVR 21,298,021.15 in June, compared with MVR 10,644,218.55 in June 2025, representing a 100 percent increase.

Collections also increased during the second quarter of 2026. MZH collected MVR 34.40 million between April and June, compared with MVR 26.73 million during the corresponding period last year, marking a 28.73 percent increase.

For the first six months of 2026, total Zakat al-Mal collections reached MVR 79.73 million, up 29.48 percent from MVR 61.58 million collected during the same period in 2025.

MZH distributed MVR 18.82 million through various Zakat assistance programmes in June.

The largest share, MVR 16.996 million, went to the Poor and Needy category. Of this, MVR 13.11 million was distributed as Zakat al-Mal, while MVR 2.5 million supported bone marrow transplantation and MVR 1.32 million went towards medical assistance.

The Poor and Needy category also included MVR 62,000 for basic necessities and MVR 6,450 for financially vulnerable students.

MZH distributed a further MVR 1.49 million under the Fi Sabilillah category, including MVR 626,534 for higher education assistance, MVR 806,396 for Quran memorisation programmes and the dissemination of Quranic knowledge, and MVR 54,192 for research in Zakat.

The Aamil category received MVR 256,679, including allocations for employees’ salaries, staff development sponsorship and the Zakat Quiz 1447.

MZH also distributed MVR 85,000 to wayfarers under the Ibn-Sabil category.

MZH said the statistics are based on Zakat Fund collection and expenditure figures recorded in MZH’s SAP system. The figures may change following subsequent updates or additional postings.
