The Maldives Zakat House and the Ministry of Social and Family Development have formalised a 25-year agreement to establish a national Empowerment Hub for persons with disabilities.

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs confirmed that the initiative will be located on the first floor of Amaan Udhares Tower 7 in Hulhumalé and will focus on enhancing vocational skills, religious education, and financial self-reliance.

The agreement was made following an official request from the Ministry of Social and Family Development, seeking support from the Maldives Zakat House in setting up the facility. The proposal was reviewed and approved during a Zakat Council meeting on 19 March, allowing the project to move swiftly towards implementation.

The accord was signed by Sheikh Izzaddin Adnan, Director General of Zakat, on behalf of the Maldives Zakat House, and State Minister Ibrahim Ismail Ali, representing the Ministry of Social and Family Development. The agreement will remain in effect for 25 Hijri years.

The Empowerment Hub is planned as a comprehensive resource to support persons with disabilities, especially young people transitioning from formal education, as well as individuals with various skill sets. The Ministry of Islamic Affairs highlighted that the facility will provide Islamic instruction, host religious programming, and offer professional development opportunities designed to promote long-term financial independence.

The hub will be situated in Amaan Udhares Tower 7, currently under development in Hulhumalé Phase 2 by Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation Limited. Government officials have described the project as one with significant potential to benefit persons with disabilities across the Maldives.
