Zakat Scholarship Applicants Can Submit Proposals Beyond Listed Islamic Disciplines
Applications for higher education scholarships and special scholarship opportunities under the Maldives Zakat House programme opened on 17 May 2026, with applicants now able to submit proposals for fields of study beyond the Islamic disciplines listed in the scheme.
The programme offers opportunities for Master’s (Level 9) and Doctoral (Level 10) studies in several Islamic disciplines, including Islamic Shariah, Qur’anic Sciences, Islamic Education, Islamic Research and Publications, Islamic Journalism, Aqeedah, Fiqh, Usul al-Fiqh, and Islamic Leadership and Management.
However, applicants are not restricted to these fields. Maldives Zakah House stated that individuals may submit proposals for other areas of study if they can demonstrate how the proposed field would contribute to the development and advancement of Maldivian Islamic society.
According to the organisation, applicants pursuing studies outside the listed disciplines must submit a proposal using the template attached to the scholarship announcement.
The scholarship scheme offers a total of 30 opportunities, with 10 scholarships allocated for studies within the Maldives and 20 for studies abroad.
The programme also includes special scholarship opportunities. These comprise five stipend-based scholarships for Maldivian students currently studying in Saudi Arabia and Egypt, as well as five scholarships aimed at training female doctors in fields related to women’s health.
