The owners at Lemon & Pine and The Corner Bar were on the lookout for a business venture when they came across the SME HUB and it immediately sparked their interest. Since the kiosks were allocated through a draw, they didn’t plan anything before it was confirmed. They were lucky enough to get 2 kiosks

The reason why these businesses started is that food and beverage is one of the fastest-moving businesses in the Maldives. They have been passionate about food and SME HUB was the perfect opportunity to serve food and drinks that satisfy every customer.

Lemon & Pine and The Corner Bar has introduced an authentic Thai iced tea with an option to add tapioca boba or popping boba to any of their drinks. Also, the businesses have also added loaded mashed potato balls with a choice of sauces.

The main concept is to serve food to customers that can be conveniently consumed on the go. At the moment, they are in a soft opening phase while also experimenting with different menu items.

Both of the business owners are working on a part-time basis. They have said that it has been a struggle to balance their full-time job and other commitments. But the upside is that it is a great experience and rewarding to have their own businesses.

The owners believe that SME HUB is a great initiative by the government to give micro and small businesses the push to start a new businesses. Every business comes with risks, which need to be taken.

Also, the government can conduct need analysis and capacity-building programs, especially for the youth and offer low-rate loans for micro businesses to get started
