Bethesda is officially part of Xbox now
Xbox’s parent company Microsoft has been on a buying spree for game studios the past few years to bolster their first party games lineup. While the internet has been abuzz with rumours about this particular acquisition since last year, it was only this month that Microsoft was able to finish the deal and acquire Bethesda for $7.5 billion. The sale encompasses all studios and game franchises under Bethesda’s parent company ZeniMax Media – this includes the titanic Fallout, Elder Scrolls and DOOM franchises among many others.
Microsoft has already confirmed that certain future Bethesda titles will be Xbox exclusive.
PS+ subscribers are having a good time this month
The free games for March for PS+ subscribers are:
- Final Fantasy VII Remake
- Maquette
- Remnant: From the Ashes
- Farpoint
Final Fantasy VII Remake is a game that fans have been asking for since Sony first teased it on the PS3 as a tech demo back in 2005. The game finally released 15 years later to critical acclaim, and you can get it for free if you have an active PS+ sub right now. Maquette is a charming puzzle game, while Remnant is a darker soulsborne title with a heavy emphasis on gunplay. Farpoint is a thrilling first-person VR title for those who’d like to shoot some aliens on their PSVR.
An extremely solid month of free PS+ titles.
Epic games store is also giving out free stuff
It’s easy to ignore other digital stores on the PC because – well, Steam. But Epic has been making some big splashes since they made their own storefront a few years ago. The Epic Games Store app is free to use for everyone, and regularly gives out free games for users.
The FIFA 21 scandal
FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) is one of the most popular modes in FIFA games and one of the main revenue streams for gaming giant EA. You have to buy packs for the chance to earn higher rated players to build better teams. Many people spend vast amounts of money on these FIFA FUT packs hoping to get a rare footballer. EA has in recent years come under international scrutiny for its predatory monetary practices, and it casts them in an even worse light when one of their employees was recently caught selling the rarest footballer cards online to the highest bidder.
The online FIFA community is in an uproar over this as many of them have spent thousands of hours and dollars to acquire these rare players through the normal lootbox system only to have their team lose to those who bought a better team on the black market.
A new season arrives in Fortnite
Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 6 launched this week with a bang. This season brings many changes and new additions to the popular battle royale. In addition to being able to craft weapons from hunting wildlife, you can now work to unlock some very special skins this season – Lara Croft and Neymar Jr.
There’s plenty of other big changes, so head on over to the battlebus to check them out.
Rejoice, GTA Online PC players
PC players of the immensely popular GTA Online are familiar with the game’s loading screens – particularly when they boot up the game where it can take up to 7 minutes for it to finish loading. This is a problem that has plagued the game since release, yet the game’s developer Rockstar never seemed to be able to fix it. Until a player by the name of “Tostercx” got tired of the needless waiting and made a fix of his own. He claims it was a relatively simple rewriting of unoptimized CPU related code. Rockstar has now reviewed his fix and even made it an official part of the game in a recent patch. Tostercx was also awarded $10,000 by Rockstar’s Bug Bounty program for his work.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League is now live
While not gaming related, it’s probably a safe bet that you’re a fan of big blockbuster superhero movies. Zack Snyder has just released the extended version of 2017’s Justice League for streaming. This version of the movie is getting significantly more love from fans and critics than the original theatrical release. The 2021 version is almost twice as long as the original movie, so there should be plenty of new spectacles for us to enjoy.
