“It started out as a hobby,” says Shadhin, co-founder of Isles of Jewels. The handmade jewellery brand began in 2016 and was originally named Blue Lime prior to rebranding the following year.

Inspired by the picturesque surroundings of Maldives, Shadhin explains that the brand name is meant to embody the scenic isles of her homeland. “I, along with two friends, crafted the brand name "Isles of Jewels" to reflect the beauty and allure of (the Maldives) islands in our jewellery creations,”

“After dedicating hours to research and experimentation, I turned this passion into a business.” she adds, describing how she joined forces with fellow co-founder Nushoou and began a joint-venture in 2018.

Crafting Beauty: The Design Process

“My design process involves initial inspiration, sketching or digital design, material selection, prototyping, and then refining based on feedback," explains Shadhin, offering a glimpse into her crafting process. This approach ensures that each piece not only aligns with the brand's beachy, serene island-life aesthetic but also upholds the standards of quality craftsmanship.

When sourcing materials, the brand is committed to diversity and quality. "We adopt a dual approach to sourcing materials," reveals Shadhin. "While some supplies, like unique beads, are selected locally and fosters a connection with the community, we also import certain materials from abroad to ensure a diverse range and [incorporate] high-quality elements in our designs."

Isles of Jewels' Signature Pieces

Among the range offered by Isles of Jewels, certain products have emerged as favourites. "Our simple drop earrings and beaded hoops are known for their vibrant colours, and special items crafted for occasions like Mother's Day and Father's Day have also been well-recieved," shares Shadhin. In particular, the Mother’s day cuff was popular amongst customers for its elegant design and sentimental value that resonated with customers.

However, the path to recognition has not been devoid of challenges. "Growing the brand posed challenges, particularly due to limited platforms initially," admits Shadhin.

Community Engagement: The Key to Growth and Success

Through active participation in various pop-up events and strategic promotion on social media platforms, the brand has not only expanded its reach but has also forged connections with a diverse audience.

"Our participation in events such as Fannugedharin, food festivals, and the Benefit Festival has been instrumental in showcasing our brand to different communities," Shadhin remarks, highlighting the pivotal role of community engagement in Isles of Jewels' success.

Future Prospects

Looking ahead, the future of Isles of Jewels brims with promise and potential. "Our plans involve expanding the product line with more diverse designs, exploring sustainable and ethical sourcing practices, and continuing to engage with the community through events and collaborations," reveals Shadhin, her gaze fixed on the horizon of possibilities.
