This month’s free PS+ games haul

The free games for May for PS+ subscribers are:

  • Wreckfest
  • Battlefield V
  • Stranded Deep

This month throws a selection of different genres at us. Wreckfest is a fast-paced arcade racer where the only rule is carnage - you can upgrade your car and hope that it survives the next time you ram your opponent while taking that corner.  Battlefield V is a game that needs little introduction. EA’s premier multiplayer shooter is free for this month and offers a lot of content for any online multiplayer fans. Stranded Deep takes a step back and throws you onto a deserted island where you have to survive and find a way off using only the resources you see around you. As the game is a fairly small download, it’s easy to try out if you like the open-world survival/crafting formula.

Discord is expanding its reach

It was reported a few weeks ago that Microsoft was making a bid to purchase the voice chat software, but those talks have halted. In addition to that, Discord has now made an official announcement of a new partnership with gaming giant Sony. The Discord app is the go-to voice chat software for gamers all over the world, no matter what platform they play on or what kinds of games they play.

It looks like PlayStation will soon be offering a native Discord experience on your consoles – welcome news for all PlayStation players.

New Dualsense colors announced

But even if you’re able to get your hands on these gorgeous new controllers, don’t expect the PS5 to be easy to get any time soon. According to Sony’s own CFO, we can expect the PS5 supply shortage to last into 2022. If you’re looking forward to buying a PS5 soon, don’t expect it to be easy to find or cheap to buy any time this year.

A lot of dirty laundry is being aired in the court case of Epic Games vs Apple

And a major shot has been fired at Sony. If you’re wondering why more multiplayer games aren’t crossplatform on PlayStation, then you can blame Sony. It was revealed in openly published court papers that Sony charges every game that wants to offer crossplay – so much so that some publishers decide that the extra cost isn’t worth it.

If your favourite game offers crossplay between PC, Xbox, Android and iOS but not PlayStation – now you know why.

Are you a fan of Final Fantasy 7?

Because FF7 remake fans have a lot to look forward to soon. The PS5 release of FF7 Intergrade is next month, and comes with a brand new character and accompanying story expansion.

The other major news is that Square Enix is making FF7 The First Soldier – a battle royale game set in the Final Fantasy 7 universe. The game will be a free mobile title releasing soon. From the previews shown, the game makes use of the typical Final Fantasy spells and abilities while also using guns for normal attacks.

DOTA: Dragon's Blood – a Netflix original anime series

Netflix has been pushing hard into original entertainment. This animated series based on the Dota 2 video game released just recently, and has already been renewed for a second season.

Dota 2 is one of the most popular online games played currently, and is one of the most competitive games played in the world. Despite there not being much of a story mode, Dota has an incredibly rich world and each of it’s characters has a deep backstory intertwined with each other. Netflix aims to capitalize on the popularity of the game and the current lack of a narrative push within the game itself by telling the Dota story on their own.

If you’re a fan of the game, we’d love to know what you thought of the series!
