Metal Gear Solid may be making a comeback

The original Metal Gear Solid for the PlayStation 1 is a fan favourite. This beloved game kickstarted the modern Metal Gear franchise, and is known to have popularized the stealth action genre.

Recent internet rumours from many different corners point to the game getting a possible remake for modern consoles. Solid Snake’s original voice actor - the legendary David Haytor - has stated that even he has heard of the rumoured remake as well. Nothing is official yet, but the likeliness of the original Metal Gear Solid getting remade is high.

The PS3 and Vita online stores will be staying up

Sony recently announced that they would be closing the PSN stores for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. The community backlash to this was so massive that Sony has now announced that they would be keeping the stores up.

Even though these consoles are now several generations behind, there is still a dedicated community for the older games on those consoles. And they’ve made their voices heard.

A perfect solution would be to have backwards compatibility like what Microsoft is doing with the Xbox, but this works for now.

Fortnite is BIG

Even non-gamers will have heard of the phenomenon that is Fortnite. The game is still as popular as it ever was, and recent documents by Epic revealed exactly how big it is. Fortnite earned almost $2 billion dollars in 2019.

Fortnite, an online multiplayer game, earned more money in a year than Seychelles’ annual GDP.

The same document reveals that the majority of Fortnite players are still on PlayStation.

Genshin Impact fans getting some love on the PS5

Genshin Impact’s 1.5 patch is now up. Along with a slew of updates to the game in new quests, new items and other changes the game now has an official PS5 upgrade.

Higher framerates, higher resolution and better textures are all part of the package to make the game look and run better on Sony’s latest console. But the biggest change is that Genshin Impact now takes advantage of the PS5’s SSD for super-fast loading. Starting up the game and fast travelling now takes seconds, where it might take minutes on older hardware.

Apex Legends: Legacy update

Apex Legends is one of the most popular multiplayer games on the market right now, and it’s getting a huge update with the release of its new season on May 4th.

The map will see some changes, and lots of characters and weapons are getting rebalanced. The two biggest changes are the addition of a new playable character, Valkyrie and the addition of a new 3v3 arena mode. Some in the community are skeptical about this new mode and how it will integrate itself into the careful balancing of the Battle Royale mode, but there are many who’re looking forward to it as well.

The full patch notes can be found on EA’s website.

The Assassin’s Creed universe is expanding

Perhaps one day we’ll see an ACU, if Ubisoft’s ambitions play out how they want. It was recently revealed that Ubisoft wants to expand Assassin’s Creed to beyond just games. There has already been a movie based on the game Franchise, but it fell under the same curse most video game movies fall to - mediocrity.

The recent success of The Witcher series on Netflix seems to have inspired Ubisoft to try harder, as they are now working directly with the streaming giant to make an Assassin’s Creed animated and live-action show.

Assassin’s Creed is a franchise with a deep history of rich characters and stories, and in the right hands it could end up just as good as The Witcher.
