“When the new regulation comes into effect on 15th February, we can ensure that no political party will be allowed to use someone else’s name to submit a form,” says Hassan Zakariyya, a member of the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM).

In an exclusive interview with MV+, Hassan Zakariyya highlighted many issues related to the registry of political parties, including fraudulent practices and misuse of identities. By integrating eFaas, the Maldives’ national digital identity platform, the ECM can ensure that party registrations are authenticated and linked to verified individuals.

Zakariyya emphasised that eFaas will enhance transparency, streamline processes, and strengthen the overall integrity of the electoral system in the Maldives.
