An additional patch of land was reclaimed on the southwest corner of Male’ during President Abdulla Yameen’s administration, with the intention of establishing an “industrial village.” The proposed zone was set to accommodate workshops, warehouses, and garages, aimed at reducing traffic and congestion in the city’s inner areas.

Currently, part of the industrial zone is being used for the construction of the bridge connecting Thilafushi, Gulhifalhu, Villimale’, and Male’. The Greater Male Area project, which includes the bridge, envisions relocating all industrial buildings to Thilafushi once the bridge is completed, further alleviating the pressure on Male’s infrastructure.
