The government has distributed over 40,000 cases of canned tuna in the Greater Malé area as part of its Ramadan gift initiative.
According to Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef, distribution in the area had surpassed 40,000 cases as of last night. He also stated that the distribution process in the islands was nearing completion.
The distribution in Malé began on 20 February, with five initial centres set up across Malé, Hulhumalé, and Vilimalé. However, due to long queues and public inconvenience, additional distribution centres were introduced, along with a token system to manage the issuance process.
This year, each household is receiving a case containing 48 cans of tuna as a Ramadan gift. The cases are distributed following verification of electricity meter numbers.
