The suspension comes amid heavy rainfall and flooding across the Maldives. The Maldives Meteorological Service has forecast continued heavy rain and strong winds across the northern and central atolls through Saturday, driven by an intensified south-west monsoon system.

In the past week, torrential rain had caused widespread flooding in Malé, prompting emergency teams to deploy water pumps at 10 locations across the capital.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said it had received requests for assistance from dozens of affected properties, including homes, shops, restaurants, schools and other buildings. Joint response teams were deployed to help clear floodwater and protect properties.

The MNDF has also urged seafarers and maritime operators to take precautions amid the adverse weather conditions.
