Maldives Records Over 590,000 Tourist Arrivals

The latest statistics from the Ministry of Tourism indicate that the Maldives has welcomed more than 590,000 tourists so far this year.
Figures released last Thursday show that a total of 593,956 tourists have arrived in the country, representing a four percent increase compared to the same period last year.
In February alone, over 214,000 tourists visited the Maldives, while arrivals from 1 to 26 March stood at 165,002. This marks an increase in arrivals compared to the same period over the past three years. The current daily arrival average in annual terms is 6,988.
Of the total tourist arrivals, 69 percent stayed in resorts, amounting to 410,024 guests. Guesthouse stays accounted for 25.5 percent of total arrivals, with 151,293 tourists opting for this accommodation type. Meanwhile, 17,172 visitors stayed in hotels, and 14,936 stayed in safaris and liveaboards.
Annual tourist arrivals in recent years have been as follows:
- 2024: 2,046,615
- 2023: 1,878,543
- 2022: 1,675,303
The Maldivian tourism industry comprises 1,189 registered properties, offering a combined bed capacity of 63,453. Of these, 98.9 percent are currently operational. This includes 179 tourist resorts with a total of 43,907 beds and 838 guesthouses providing 14,364 beds. Other accommodation options include hotels, contributing 2,038 beds, and safaris, which offer 3,144 beds.
The statistics also confirm that 44 international airlines are currently operating flights to the Maldives.
