The Road Development Corporation (RDC) has been awarded a contract worth MVR 829 million for the modernisation of the Addu Link Road, as part of a broader effort to improve infrastructure in the region.

The project is scheduled to be completed over a period of 1,440 days, or four years. Planned works under the agreement include the asphalt surfacing or stone paving of 67.58 kilometres of carriageway-type bitumen (CTB) roads. Additional upgrades will involve the installation of sewerage and sanitation systems in the island of Feydhoo, as well as the construction of zebra crossings and the erection of road signage to enhance safety and accessibility.
The Addu Link Road project is being implemented alongside another large-scale infrastructure initiative currently underway in Addu City in partnership with India’s Afcons Infrastructure Limited. This separate project comprises the installation of a 103-kilometre sewerage network, the tarring of 40 kilometres of roads across all residential areas, the laying of a 60-kilometre cement-stabilised road base layer, and the resurfacing of 3.4 kilometres of existing asphalt roads.
Both projects form part of a wider strategy to modernise Addu City’s infrastructure and improve transport connectivity, sanitation, and road safety for residents.
