Charges Requested Against Two Men in Hulhumalé Axe Attack

The Maldives Police Service has requested that the Prosecutor General’s Office file charges against two individuals arrested in connection with an axe attack that occurred near the Rehendhi Turf Stadium in Hulhumalé last February.
The Prosecutor General’s Office accepted the case last Thursday, according to police.
The suspects have been identified as Rusthum Ibrahim, 25, from Heenaamage, Gdh. Fiori, and Saifullah Faisal, 19, from Finifenmaage, B. Goidhoo. Both individuals have been remanded in custody pending trial.
The attack took place at approximately 11:35 p.m. on 8 February, when two masked individuals on a motorcycle assaulted a man on the west side of the stadium, located on Boaganvila Magu in Hulhumalé.
Rusthum and Saifullah were apprehended later that night while attempting to flee toward Malé via the highway.
