Ooredoo Earns Guinness Title for Record-Breaking Underwater Panel Discussion

Ooredoo Maldives has made history by earning a Guinness World Record for conducting the Largest Underwater Panel Discussion, showcasing the company’s pioneering spirit and cementing its position as the driving force of digital innovation in the Maldives.

Held beneath the breathtaking turquoise waters of Baa Fulhadhoo, this record-breaking event featured five panellists engaging in a fully submerged discussion, each panelist speaking for more than two minutes while completely underwater.

The panel featured:

  • Ahmed Shiyam, Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources
  • Khalid Al-Hamadi, CEO, Ooredoo Maldives
  • Brigadier General Mohamed Saleem, Maldives National Defence Force
  • Shabeen Ali, Director of Operations, Ooredoo Maldives
  • Afsheen Mohamed, Senior Manager of Transmission, Ooredoo Maldives

In addition to the panellists, the underwater audience included MMPRC MD Shiuree Ibrahim, senior officials of Ooredoo Maldives, and foreigners. 

The discussion brought focus to the critical intersection of technology, sustainability, and national resilience, all while pushing the boundaries of what’s possible literally beneath the ocean surface. “The successful attempt highlights Ooredoo Maldives’ role not only as a telecom service provider but as a changemaker, continuously reshaping the digital landscape of the nation,” Ooredoo Maldives said in their statement.
