Maldives Seeks Strengthened Healthcare Ties with Brunei

The government has engaged in discussions with a visiting delegation from Brunei to explore potential collaborations aimed at strengthening the Maldives’ healthcare services.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Health met with the Brunei delegation, which included representatives from the Chief Clinical Specialty Service and senior technical personnel.

The discussions focused on various areas, including the enhancement of primary healthcare, nurse specialty training, cancer treatment, and further opportunities for collaboration in the healthcare sector. Additionally, the meeting explored the possibility of providing local medical students with internship opportunities in Brunei and the development of mobile applications related to public health, fostering knowledge and experience exchange.

The Ministry also highlighted that strategies and best practices for operating smoking cessation clinics were shared during the meeting.

As part of their visit, the Brunei delegation toured key healthcare facilities in the capital, Malé, including the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and Damanaveshi, to observe the Maldives’ healthcare infrastructure and service delivery.
