Foreign Minister Reaffirms Gov’t’s Commitment to Judicial Independence

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdulla Khaleel affirmed today that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s administration will not undermine the judiciary or due process.
In a post on X, Dr Khaleel responded to the recent dismissal of Supreme Court Justices Dr Azmiralda Zahir and Mahaz Ali Zahir by Parliament, following an investigation by the Judicial Services Commission.
“The dismissal of the two Supreme Court Justices by Parliament followed the due process initiated by the Judicial Services Commission,” he stated.
The Government of President Dr @MMuizzu will not interfere with the Judiciary. Nor will it undermine due process.

He emphasised that the government remains fully committed to upholding the independence of the judiciary and the rule of law.
Dr Khaleel also urged members of the Opposition to represent the situation accurately when engaging with the international community. “One would hope and expect those in responsible positions within the Opposition to speak truthfully and factually,” he said.
He tagged the official X account of the Commonwealth, along with its Secretary-General.
