The Maldives Bureau of Statistics has launched a labour force survey in the Greater Malé region, scheduled to run from 18 to 24 May. The survey is part of a monthly data collection effort that began in October 2024, aimed at gathering comprehensive labour market statistics.
The Labour Force Survey (LFS) is being carried out in randomly selected households across the capital region. It covers a range of areas, including demographic information, education, household production, employment and unemployment details, migration, and volunteer work.
The Bureau, which operates under the mandate of the Statistics Act, is responsible for collecting and analysing labour market data. The primary objectives of the LFS are to identify the labour force, determine employment and unemployment rates, gather labour statistics, and calculate migration rates to support population projections.
In its statement, the Bureau emphasised that all information collected through the survey will be treated with strict confidentiality, ensuring that no data will be released in a way that could reveal the identity of any individual or household.
