The MoU outlines a broad framework for collaboration, with a focus on strengthening primary healthcare services in the Maldives and enhancing the regulatory capacity of the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA). Other areas of cooperation include the development of training institutions for health professionals, human resource development in the health sector, health policy and systems research, health information and digital technology, as well as sustainable financing mechanisms for health promotion.
According to the Ministry of Health, the partnership is expected to provide significant benefits to the Maldives, drawing on Thailand’s regional experience and progress in public health. The agreement is set to run for three years, with the improvement of primary healthcare identified as a top priority.
The MoU was signed by State Minister of Health Khadeeja Abdul Samad Abdulla on behalf of the Maldives and by Thailand’s Deputy Minister of Health Dej-is Khaothong on behalf of the Thai government.
