Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has concluded his official visit to the Republic of Tajikistan, where he attended the High-Level International Conference on Glacier Preservation.

During the conference, the Vice President delivered a statement at the opening session, calling for urgent and united global action. He underscored the Maldives’ concern over the accelerating loss of glaciers and its far-reaching consequences for vulnerable nations and the international community.

The Vice President also paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Kokhir Rasulzoda. During the call, both leaders affirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties and to working together in areas that bring mutual benefit to both countries.

The Vice President’s visit to Tajikistan reaffirmed the Maldives’ dedication to advancing international dialogue on climate change and to deepening partnerships with countries that share a commitment to sustainable development.

VP Attends Reception Hosted by Tajik Government

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef attended a reception hosted by the Government of Tajikistan in honour of the visiting delegates participating in the High-level International Conference on Glacier’s Preservation.

During the event, the Vice President engaged with high level delegates from several countries and discussed key issues related to the Preservation of glaciers. These exchanges highlighted the shared global concern over the urgent need to address climate change and its devasting impact on glacial environment.

Earlier today, the Vice President took part in the opening session of the High-Level International Conference on the Preservation. In his address, he called for urgent and united global action to combat the alarming rate of glacier loss. 

He underscored the Maldives’ deep concern regarding the accelerating loss of glaciers and its far-reaching consequences. He also paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of the republic of Tajikistan.

Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Kokhir Rasulzoda. The Vice President is currently visiting Tajikistan for the High-Level International Conference on Glacier Preservation

During the call, the Vice President and Prime Minister discussed several key areas of cooperation. They acknowledged the Maldives as one of the world’s most vulnerable countries to climate change, with rising sea levels posing a direct threat. Both leaders expressed interest in enhancing bilateral cooperation in climate change adaptation and sustainable development.

The discussions emphasised the need to improve agricultural cooperation between both countries. They also expressed a mutual interest in boosting tourism collaboration, with Tajikistan acknowledging the Maldives’ global leadership in the industry and expressing a desire to develop its tourism sector.

Concluding the call, both leaders affirmed their commitment to strengthen bilateral ties further and work together on areas that bring mutual benefit to both countries.
