Road Safety Campaign Relaunched with Support from Three Major Companies

Agreements have been signed with three companies to support the relaunch of the ‘Rakkaa Campaign’, a road safety initiative led by the Maldives Police Service (MPS).

The campaign aims to enhance public awareness of road safety and is being revived in partnership with Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) Plc, Ooredoo Maldives Plc, and Allied Insurance Company of the Maldives Pvt Ltd.

The agreements were formalised during a ceremony held at Iskander Building on Tuesday. Deputy Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen signed the agreement on behalf of the Maldives Police Service. MTCC was represented by its Managing Director, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Retired) Ahmed Saudi. Ooredoo Maldives was represented by its Commercial Officer for the Maldives, Hussain Niyaz, while Executive Director Nasrath Mohamed signed on behalf of Allied Insurance.

According to the Maldives Police Service, this year’s campaign will include two major roadshows under the ‘Rakkaa’ title. The first roadshow will take place in Shaviyani Atoll from 17 June, followed by a second event in Villingili of Gaafu Alifu Atoll and other parts of the atoll later in the year.

The campaign will also incorporate a series of nationwide road safety awareness activities. These include the Traffic Monitors Programme, the ‘Fahi Raasthaa’ initiative, targeted programmes for taxi drivers, smaller roadshows across various islands, and dedicated sessions for drivers in the transport sector.

Originally launched in 2014, the Rakkaa Campaign has been carried out in Male’ and the atolls by the Maldives Police Service as part of its ongoing efforts to promote road safety and reduce traffic-related incidents across the country.
