Zakat Fund Spends Over USD 123,000 on Medical Aid in First Four Months of 2025

The Zakat Fund has spent more than USD 123,216 on medical treatment for the underprivileged in the first four months of 2025, according to official statistics.

In January, the Fund allocated USD 49,370 for medical assistance, benefiting 102 individuals. The highest portion of this amount, USD 12,924, was directed towards cancer treatment. A total of USD 97,276 had been set aside for the month.

In February, 89 people received medical aid amounting to USD 49,230. The following month, USD 54,946 was distributed among 68 individuals for their treatment. In April, assistance was extended to 111 individuals, with USD 71,335 disbursed.

Alongside support for medical expenses, the Zakat Fund continues to provide essential financial aid and support for Quran and religious education.

While the Ministry of Islamic Affairs previously handled the collection and distribution of Zakat, this responsibility now lies with the Maldives Zakat House. The institution was established based on a recommendation by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and officially inaugurated in January 2024.
