A march was held in Hulhumalé to pay tribute to blood donors in celebration of World Blood Donor Day.

The event took place in Hulhumalé Phase 2 and was organised by the Malé City Group of Hospitals. It saw participation from the Ministry of Health, as well as hospitals and organisations across the Malé region. A large number of people joined the march, including Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim. Participants carried banners and signs expressing gratitude to blood donors.

Public Service Media (PSM) reported that Fathmath Sausan Mohamed, Head of the Laboratory at Hulhumalé Hospital, stated the primary aim of the march was to recognise the contributions of blood donors. “One of the primary goals of this march is to celebrate World Blood Donor Day to honour donors and to encourage more individuals to volunteer and donate blood,” she said.

World Blood Donor Day is marked globally each year on 14 June to raise awareness about the importance of donating blood, highlight safe donation practices, and honour those who regularly donate. This year’s theme is “Give Blood, Give Hope, Together We Save Lives.”
