The Islamic Ministry has announced the implementation of standardised intervals between the Adhan (call to prayer) and the Iqamah (start of congregational prayer) at all mosques across the Maldives.

The decision was made following recommendations from the National Council for Mosque Affairs, prompted by public concerns over the lack of sufficient time to perform Sunnah prayers between the Adhan and Iqamah. Currently, the duration between the two varies across mosques and islands, leading to inconsistencies in prayer routines.

To address the issue, the Ministry has introduced fixed intervals for each of the five daily prayers. The designated durations are as follows: 15 minutes for Fajr (dawn), 12 minutes each for Dhuhr (noon) and Asr (afternoon), 8 minutes for Maghrib (sunset), and 10 minutes for Isha (night).

The Ministry has confirmed that the new guidelines have been officially communicated to local councils and are to be implemented uniformly across the country.
