President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has highlighted the crucial role of Islamic values in overcoming societal challenges and ensuring long-term national prosperity. He made these remarks in a special address to the nation to mark the Islamic New Year 1447 AH.
Speaking on the occasion, President Muizzu called on the people of the Maldives to remain firmly committed to Islam, stating that the country’s safety, well-being, and progress are inseparable from its dedication to the faith.
Reflecting on the Hijrah—the migration of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) from Mecca to Medina—the President described the event as one filled with timeless lessons for the Islamic Ummah. He emphasised that the actions of the Prophet (PBUH) during this historic journey offer guidance for success at both personal and national levels.
In his address, he reflected on the Hijrah as a source of profound lessons, highlighting acts of trust in Allah and strategic vigilance. He cited key figures such as Ali (RA), Amir ibn Fuhayrah, Abdullah ibn Abu Bakr, and Asma binth Abu Bakr to illustrate the importance of faith, the vital roles of youth and women, and the value of collaboration—even with non-Muslims—where expertise is required.
Addressing the broader context of current global events, the President remarked that this year’s Islamic New Year arrives during difficult times for many in the Muslim world. He urged Maldivians to turn to Allah for guidance and to pray for the unity and protection of the Islamic Ummah.
In particular, President Muizzu expressed heartfelt prayers for the people of Palestine and for peace across war-torn regions in the Middle East. He reaffirmed the Maldives’ solidarity with all Muslim nations facing hardship.
Concluding his address, President Muizzu prayed for Allah’s protection over the Islamic Ummah from the schemes of its enemies, asking for divine support in granting victory to Muslim nations, preserving the Maldives’ independence, and safeguarding its Islamic identity and prosperity.
