Turkish Parliamentary Delegation Calls on President Muizzu

A delegation from the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, including members of the Türkiye–Maldives Interparliamentary Friendship Group, paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Muizzu this morning at the President’s Office.

President Muizzu welcomed the delegation and expressed his appreciation for the group’s multi-party representation, describing it as a testament to Türkiye’s dynamic political landscape. He also encouraged stronger collaboration between the Friendship Group and various Maldivian government agencies.

According to the President’s Office, reaffirming the Maldives’ support for Türkiye, President Muizzu praised the country’s leadership for its principled stance on the Palestinian cause, noting that the Maldives maintains a similarly steadfast position.

The President highlighted the importance of deepening bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade and people-to-people exchanges. He also outlined the Maldives’ priorities in climate action, highlighting ongoing economic reforms, adaptation strategies, and investments in renewable energy.

The Turkish delegation expressed a strong interest in expanding cooperation across sectors such as higher education, tourism, and agriculture, and stressed the need to strengthen economic ties and advance trade agreements. They reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with the Maldives, a “brotherly Muslim nation”, to uphold shared values and goals.

Both sides concluded the meeting by reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening the enduring friendship between the Maldives and Türkiye.
