The Maldives has once again secured top recognition at the World Travel Awards (WTA), winning two prestigious titles in the Indian Ocean category: Indian Ocean’s Leading Destination 2025 and Indian Ocean’s Leading Green Destination 2025.
The Maldives has now claimed the title of Indian Ocean’s Leading Destination for six consecutive years, from 2020 through 2025. This year also marks the second consecutive win for Indian Ocean’s Leading Green Destination, following its first win in 2024.
The awards were presented at the World Travel Awards Africa & Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony, held on Saturday, June 28, at the Johari Rotana in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. CEO and Managing Director of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), Ibrahim Shiuree, accepted the honours on behalf of the Maldives.
Established in 1993, the World Travel Awards are regarded as the most prestigious awards in the global travel and tourism industry. They celebrate excellence across all sectors and serve as a benchmark for exceptional performance and innovation.
“These accolades are a powerful testament to the Maldives’ enduring appeal as a world-class destination. They reflect our unwavering commitment to providing unforgettable experiences for visitors and recognise MMPRC’s dedicated efforts to promote and elevate our tourism industry,” Shiuree sai, reflecting on the Maldives’ success this year.
The repeated wins reinforce the Maldives’ global standing as both a leading travel destination and a champion of sustainable, eco-conscious tourism.
