The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has strongly denied claims that a company involved in preparations for the opening of the new passenger terminal has connections to Israel.

The denial comes in response to a report broadcast by Raajje TV on July 7, which alleged that MACL had contracted a foreign firm with Israeli ties as part of the event’s planning. MACL issued a firm rebuttal yesterday, calling the accusations “false” and “baseless.”

In its statement, the state-owned company emphasised that all arrangements for the upcoming July 26 inauguration are being managed internally, without any involvement from companies affiliated with Israel. “MACL has never conducted business with any Israeli-linked entity,” the statement read.

Furthermore, MACL confirmed its intention to pursue legal action over the claims, announcing plans to file formal complaints with the Maldives Broadcasting Commission and relevant judicial bodies. The company described the media report as an intentional attempt to spread misinformation and undermine public trust.

The new terminal’s opening, to be officiated by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, marks a significant upgrade to Velana International Airport, aimed at boosting capacity and improving international connectivity.

MACL concluded by reaffirming its commitment to national values and transparency in all operations.
